My Guest: Jack Dean of Pension Tsunami, on the story about the $800,000.00 annual salary for the City Manager of the City of Bell, CA. This Saturday, Bruce Bialosky, long-time political activist, a CPA, a former National Treasurer of the Republican Jewish Coalition, a co-founder of the Republican Jewish Coalition's Southern California Chapter, and a big Johnny Depp fan, wrote in a column on April 2nd in The Flashreport, "...I recently saw Mr. Depp's newest film, Alice in Wonderland. This turned out to be a fitting end to a month filled with utter exasperation -- caused principally by the assessment for the first time of the California Use Tax on small businesses."

California is broke. It has the largest debt of any of the bankrupt States, and the fourth highest unemployment in the country. Hitting the small businesses up for more is absurd. He'll explain how this new tax works and how many small businesses are not even aware of it, as of yet, and tax day is just around the corner.

On Tuesday, Jan 19th, the SF Chronicle reported, Tight Massachusetts race alarms CA Dems. San Francisco's Mayor Gavin Newsom said "Regardless of the outcome ... this should be a gigantic wake-up call to the Democratic Party - that we're not connecting with the needs, the aspirations and the desires of real people right now."

How rattled were the CA Democrats? On Wednesday, the next day after the Massachusetts Tea Party, the Democrat Majority Legislature resurrected and passed out of committee, a state version of Universal Health Care, including the equivalent of the public option. California is reeling from an 11 percent unemployment, the highest taxes in the country next to NYC, its own version of Cap and Trade, regulatory power crazed agencies that wield and exercise crippling power, a public employee pension crisis that is on the verge of exploding the budgets of countless cities and counties throughout the State, a deficit that is over $20 billion dollars and a $42 billion dollar debt.

Barbara 'call me senator' Boxer is looking vulnerable, although the Dems in CA still don't get it, and the political class in CA is still looking at the race for U.S. Senate through the old paradigm.

GOP strategist Dan Schnur, who directs the University of Southern California's Unruh Institute of Politics, said DeVore is the GOP contender most likely to attract the Tea Party-generated "money bombs" like those that buoyed Brown.
Some believe Boxer in November would rather run against DeVore — an arch-conservative less likely to attract independent and crossover voters — than the wealthier Fiorina or the more socially moderate and experienced Campbell, although Schnur said each candidate has strengths.

A Rasmussen Reports poll of 500 likely voters conducted last week showed Boxer leading Fiorina by three percentage points; leading Campbell by four; and leading DeVore by six in head-to-head matchups. But sources said Wednesday that a forthcoming Field Poll will show Boxer with a 10-point lead over Campbell, and wider leads over Fiorina and DeVore.

In 2001, he moved with his wife and two children to the United States to practice medicine in a market-based system where doctors can make life-saving and long-term care decisions based on patient need, and personal freedom is respected. Since the near miss terrorist bomb attack on American Flight 253 to Detroit on Christmas Day, Americans want information and the reports from the media reveal a gross incompetence, an ignorance or even a flagrant disregard on behalf of those entities we trust to protect us and to lead in our protection from the threat we face from Iran, Al-Qaeda and Radical Islam. They thought A. Q. Khan (the Pakistani nuclear scientist who sold nuclear secrets for a price to anyone) was bad. Well, what Iran is doing now makes A. Q. Khan look like a mere amature. But this race for a nuclear weapon has even a more sinister purpose.

Preparing the way for the "hidden Imam": At the end of his speech at the United Nations in the fall of 2005, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made an invocation to Allah to bring about "the speedy reappearance of the Hidden Imam". This man truly believes that in order for this to happen he must bring about a great worldwide calamity. What better calamity than to have an all-out nuclear war between the western and eastern powers. And what better way to start that but to... (next topic)

Destruction of Israel: An unrelenting effort since 1979 to undermine and eventually destroy that tiny nation by funding radical terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah and Hammas. These terrorist organizations can do a lot of damage if they have tactical nukes at their fingertips.

Squelching any opposition inside Iran and doing whatever they can to remain in power: As evidenced by the events of last year this tyrannical government will stop at nothing to silence/squelch the voices/actions of opposition forces inside Iran. They've embarked on systematic search-and-destroy missions to find and root out all opposition leaders, wherever they exist and have been doing so for 30+ years. The events of the past year is simply a pinnacle of these efforts to date.

Ayatollah Khomeini's Ultimate Goal: Establishment and Proliferation of Islamic Republics, throughout the world - A now 30+ year long quest to replicate Iran's Islamic Republic type of government throughout the world, starting with Europe, then the U.S., and once they've fallen, the rest of the middle-east and the world. He stated it on numerous occasions during his reign.

Weakening the Western Governments from within: A concerted effort to use the western governments' own governing rules of law to infiltrate local, state, and federal government bureaucracies so that more and more pro-Islamic guidelines and ordinances can be established. Regardless of what "laws" are passed by legislators (federal, state, and local), the radical Muslims understand that ultimate power resides in the hands of the executors/enforcers of those laws; and they know that if they can infiltrate those positions they can eventually institute Shria law, if not by the democratic process, but rather by the fact that they'll own the executive branches.

General Proliferation of Islam in the majority of the Western world: Promoting and teaching of Islam in western societies' schools and colleges. Indoctrinating western children to learn the Quran and become used to Islamic laws with the hopes that one day they'll grow up and demand Islamic laws in their localities.

Atlas Shrugged, as of this post, is at #22 on Amazon's Best Seller List, a list updated hourly. It has been number 1 several weeks on many charts, throughout this year. It sold record numbers in 2009. The surge in sales began in late 2008, following the TARP Bill, and then accelerated with the advent and passage of the Stimulus Bill of 2009. People are looking for answers, clarity, and words to describe and understand what happened and what is happening to us, and to our social political economy today. They find voice and reason in Atlas Shrugged.

How do Christian Libertarians reconcile the philosophy of Objectivism entombed in Atlas Shrugged with their Christian faith, with integrity? For insight I turn to C. S. Lewis.

Ayn Rand Institute Scholar Edwin Locke, in his description of the Institute's course called "Christianity vs. Objectivism: Which is the Proper Philosophy for Living on Earth?" ...argues that only Objectivism, the philosophy of Ayn Rand, provides a code of morality suitable for living successfully and happily on earth. Objectivism holds that reality is real, that reason is man's only means of knowing it and that one should act in one's own rational self-interest, with rationality being the highest virtue. Life is the objective standard of morality. In contrast, Christianity asserts that reality is governed by supernatural forces, that knowledge is based on faith and that the highest moral virtue is self-sacrifice. It will be shown that Christianity cannot be practiced consistently, destroys the integrity of man's mind, and is incompatible with living successfully and happily in the real world.

I invited Mr. Theroux to help deconstruct the assertion made by Locke, above, and to help readers reconcile the truth we find Atlas Shrugged with Christian Faith.

Pension Funds for Public Employees Lost $600 Billion Last Year (fiscal year ended June 30), and taxpayers are on the hook. Calpers'losses, with funds guaranteed by the taxpayers, are 9.4% of that $600 billion dollars.

Marcia Fritz, President of Californians for Pension Reform, joins us to discuss the unbelievable, corrupt, costly abuse of public trust and the public's legal obligation to cover the losses. We'll look at how Calpers directors have played fast and loose, taken extreme and hazardous risks on investments, and incurred massive losses, down $56.2 billion in one year, 23% of the value, with funds guaranteed by taxpayers.

Worse, in a pay to play racket, former Calpers board member reaped $50 million in fees for arranging the "winning investments." Calpers is an example for what has taken place across the country. Some would call it betrayal, graft, abuse and theft by public employee fund managers but "Calpers' CIO says there's no moral hazard in fund's guarantee by taxpayers."

It's something I've seen a lot of in my political walk in life, and Ms. Ferns agrees, YES, it's distressing. And that's why we have paper targets, and steel targets, to shoot at--it's far less expensive than therapy!

Marita Noon, Executive Director of Citizens for Responsible Energy, on the latest "higher than expected" unemployment numbers and how no new manufacturing jobs are expected here in the U.S. Two recent op-eds she wrote help explain why.

Happy Talk on Green Jobs: "we as a country have become so enamored with 'alternative energy' that no one looks at what it takes or where the green jobs are being created? Shouldn't we have straight talk, not happy talk? Shouldn't we have facts not 'feel good?'

Staying with wind turbines, we know that their popularity is creating jobs in Mexico. But did you know they also give China a great boost?"

Built Upon the Sand: First, the cap and trade house is built upon a lie. The lie is that climate change is a crisis, that is it caused by man, that man can fix it, and that even if no other countries participate in "capping emissions," America can still make a difference.

But what if it is not a lie? What if the crisis is as real as the global cooling crisis was perceived to be in the seventies? If that is the case, the crisis can wait a few more years. We've been making noise about climate change for 40 years. Now, in the midst of a major economic recession, is not the time to be enacting extreme measures that will finish off the American economy.

Also, Steve Macias, in defense of the First Amendment: Agree or Disagree, two Mexican American college students, both elected cabinet members of the Associated Student Government at Sacramento City College, President Steve Macias & Student Affairs Commissioner Monica Guzman, who also happen to be openly Christian, one Protestant, the other Catholic, Pro-life, and Republican, are being recalled, in a process that violates the official ASG Constitution, rules and ethical standards, in a rush to oust the two, persecute them, make examples of them and silence others who get out of line.

Their crime: According to The Express, the student run newspaper, "Mr. Macias is being recalled for refusing to censor an anti-abortion display on campus known as the Genocide Awareness Project on Sept 16 -17, 2009...It is unclear why Ms. Guzman is being recalled."

They are two of a majority of the 25 cabinet board members, who supported allowing the anti-abortion organization with the over-sized graphic colored photograph posters, to participate in the school Constitution Day. The organization's participation was approved by a majority vote of the Associated Student Government Board. Mr Macias did not vote in that decision.

The Queer-Straight Alliance and The Atheist Freethinkers Club spearhead the recall, while the school administration tacitly approves of this political lynching. Lessons to be learned by our college young adults: Either the rule of law protects everyone's rights to free speech, or not. Either free speech is a fundamental right, or it is not. Free speech for me, but not for thee? You decide.

At the CA GOP Convention, my friend Taddeus Taylor introduced me to a man he described as the most interesting man at the convention, and I agree, he was. Dr. Arnold M. Zeiderman, MD, MPH, FACOG (OB-GYN with a Masters in Public Health) was part of a panel on Health Care and he joins me to talk about that issue, from his indepth view.
On Thursday, October 1, Medical Doctors marched on Washington DC, and called it the "Million Med March." They admit that it was far fewer than a million, and point out that fewer than 1 million doctors work in the United States, and that a lot fewer will go into practice if the government and Congress take over health care. We'll talk with Dr. Zeiderman about health care and public health.
But Dr Zeiderman is also a long time activist for Israel. We'll talk about Iran, defense and nuclear weapons.

On the program, Andrew Coulson was an advisor on Flunked and appeared on camera along with Ben Chavis of American Indian Public Charter School of Oakland. We’ll talk about the stories and evidence that it was based on and what they can tell us about American education.

Specifically, we will talk about excellence in k-12 schooling (for example, Ben’s success, but also other examples like KIPP), and why they don’t catch on like wildfire and spread throughout the whole country the way that Starbucks, iPods, Facebook, etc. all did. In every other field, excellence routinely scales up massively, but not in education. Why?
Mr. Coulson will touch on the story of Jaime Escalante, too, the teacher whose success teaching poor Hispanic kids in East L.A. was dramatized in the movie Stand and Deliver. It shows what happens to excellence in the public school system. In the end, it usually gets crushed.

So if we want every kid to have access to the best teaching methods and materials, how do we structure schooling like other fields where excellence is more contagious than H1N1?

The first, titled "California's Republican Legislators - a White Males' Club" certainly resonated with me, and the second, "Reach Out, Republicans, Or Lose" in which he references a recent Field Poll, has confirmed my worst nightmare, that we are stuck, and doomed fast, unless we, as a collective group, experience an immediate and dramatic paradigm shift.

Some argue it's enough to be "pure" in conservative principles. And that wavering from that is what has got us to this point of the brink of quasi-irrelevance, in the first place.

They equate outreach to women and minorities as a surrender of all principles of equality to political correctness and race and gender based preferences.

But some will argue that what leaders are doing, and not doing, now, in the name of "conservative principle," is not conservative, but is in fact reactionary, self defeating and self destructive.

Liberty and freedom are on the line, and it is the 11th hour.

CA Assemblyman and Candidate for U.S. Senate, Chuck DeVore, has his eye on energy, a fundamental issue critical to economic growth and Americans' standard of living. He sponsored a bill to drill for offshore oil. It was voted down in the CA Legislature recently, yet it would have generated revenue and jobs and with today's technology, would have been noninvasive. Cap and Trade legislation has passed in the Congress, but still has to pass in the Senate, in Washington DC. CA has had it's own version of Cap and Trade since 2006. How's it working out for CA's economy? How would it affect the U.S. economy?

We also talk with Assemblyman DeVore about why he believes he's the Republican candidate who can win in CA, with his bona fide social and fiscal conservative credentials, much to the chagrin of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which he says is going for the Celebrity Candidate for CA, again. He believes he can attract the Black and Hispanic vote in CA, enough to win. He cites their vote for Prop 8 as proof of their conservative values. Is that enough? Can he win without their vote?

Greg Scandlen is Founder and Director of Consumers for Health Care Choices, and is considered an expert, nationally, on Health Care policy. What's in the bill for Health Care Reform? Death Panels? My guest this Saturday is Shawn Steel, board member and CA Republican Party National Committee Man, who wrote an email which was intercepted by and read on the John and Ken show on March 19th. It was addressed to the CA Republican Party’s Board of Directors, calling for immediate action, to oppose Prop 1A, and to campaign against it. I’ll share the email with you on the show. In it Steel argues that the “CA Republican Party (CRP )must join the Anti-tax fight, and defeat Prop 1A.” It’s about the CRP’s platform, and thus, its mandate, the reason why people become Republicans. So far, his cry in the email, has gone unheeded. But the grassroots activists in the party are in action! Time to shake it up and do some house cleaning! It’s High Noon time.

Despite his insulting and racist comments to local TV Station KMPH, Carter remains Attorney General Jerry Brown's staffer for Brown's local Fresno Office.

Republicans should openly embrace their powerful natural allies, the Latino coalition of the Central Valley Ag Industry, to survive as a relevant party in CA.

Latino Democrats are sympathetic to the plight of their Latino constituents who are losing their jobs after generations of working and living in the same communities, as a result of radical environmentalist policies, and are faced with choosing human life, property and way of life over kowtowing to the Radical Environmentalist Lobby. I was caught off guard, having checked out on Friday afternoon, following the passage of the Stimulus Bill in Congress.

I assumed that the politicians would take the weekend to consider the consequences of their approving the bill in the Senate. Especially Collins, Snowe and Specter. But no, no, no---They worked on Friday night, and that's never a good thing. Typically, Friday night is when they do things they don't want you to notice, or they hope will receive as little attention as possible. This is even worse.

Deb Ferns brings sanity, levity and humor to the program; she makes it fun and inviting for women to take responsibility for their personal safety and security by becoming skilled marksmen. 911 doesn't cut it. Where gun ownership and concealed carry permit laws go up, crime goes down. It's a fact.

She’ll be my guest on my show this Saturday. I’ve only just met her on the phone, but I can tell you already, I LOVE who she is, what she’s about and what she’s accomplished in her community and beyond.How viable is she? Mike Spence, blogged on Flashreport on Thursday, about Teresa Hernandez: “Not a bad resume. Community involvement like that is hard to find and could be a key factor in a low turnout election.” Sorry Mike, but it's an excellent resume. Gold!Teresa and her husband Jose opened Cielito Lindo Restaurant in South El Monte in 1986. It has become a local landmark and popular family restaurant. A few years later they formed Hernandez Productions to launch Mariachi Sol de Mexico and Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles to produce Mariachi Festivals and shows across the United States. In 1991 Teresa and her husband started the Mariachi Heritage Society to provide in-school and after school music classes for local children who could not otherwise afford instruments or lessons. Over 7,000 children have attended this program from schools in Azusa, South El Monte, Norwalk and Pico Rivera.When I think of Teresa Hernandez and what she’s about, I see in my mind, and feel in my heart, my mother and father, my grandparents, my siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, dancing, laughing, swooning and feeling the heady experience of love, life joy, laughter, romance and sentiments with family.Oh, and she knows the issues, intimately and articulates them with acuity.If there is a special race in the 32nd district, the GOP should be all hands on deck!

Michael Steele was elected Chairman of the Republican National Committee in a hard fought and dramatic election Friday in DC. Who knew, outside of party insiders, who the last GOP chair was? Why does Michael Steele’s election make headline news? Matt Cunningham on his OC Blog put it this way: “Most importantly, the RNC gets a clean slate with the defeat of incumbent Chairman Mike Duncan. I think Steele will make an excellent chairman. He's conservative, articulate and will be an excellent, appealing spokesman for conservative principles in the Age of Obama.”

On Jan 20, I drove down to a party in Orange County, and was delighted to be amidst so many freedom lovers, to celebrate the launch of a new web based publication, FreedomPolitics.com. The house was packed. The atmosphere was lively and heartening, brimming with passionate freedom lovers including contributing editors for Reason, Pension Tsunami, Red County, OC Blog. Steven Greenhut is a contributing writer and editor.

My guest today is Bill Goodwin, web editor for Freedom Communications publications including the new on line publication, FreedomPolitics.com, and also the Orange County Register, founded in 1905 and based in Santa Ana, California.
